WSOP World Series of Poker
In July every year it’s time for the biggest event in poker, the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Players from all over the world buy in or play satellites to be able to get to play with the very best. There is no more prestigious final table than at the main event of WSOP and all poker players dream of sitting there. The main event is a $10.000 buy in No Limit Texas Hold’em and that is of course a bit heavy for most amateurs. Good thing then that most pokerrooms online offer some sort of WSOP Satellites. Even if they are hard to win due to the usually heavy load of players it is still a chance to be allowed to go to Las Vegas and fight for the Holy Grail of Poker.
The players that have made the biggest impact on WSOP through the years are without doubt Stu Ungar, Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth. Stu Ungar with 3 main event winnings with 16 years between them, the latest in 1997. Doyle Brunson by winning two years in a row with the exact same hand, ten, deuce. And Phil Hellmuth for his amazing suite of 11 bracelets.
Satellite players in WSOP
Two players have managed to come from a satellite and win the WSOP. Both Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer the winners of 2003 and 2004 came from a Pokerstars Satellite. This of course giving a boost to both Pokerstars and satellites in general. It also showed that online poker players are competitive in poker something that the offline pros had been claiming impossible for quite a while.
